This image was taken at Mather Point about 20 minutes before sunrise. The long exposure makes it look a little brighter than it actually was. Being alone at this popular tourist site on a cold, still morning was one of the more enjoyable experiences I've had as a photographer. Looking down into the canyon, I could see campfires along the river (obviously from overnight hikers). As dawn began to break, the fires went out one by one.
