Taughannock Falls (near Ithaca, NY) is my favorite waterfall. At 215 feet, it is over 30 feet taller than Niagara. In the northeastern United States, only nearby Inspiration Falls in Letchworth SP is taller (at 315 feet). Most of these "local" waterfalls and gorges seem to be well kept secrets, at least as far as NY residents are concerned. When I visit, I'm more likely to see out-of-state and out-of-country visitors than fellow New Yorkers. At least it keeps the crowds down....
