Dec. 29, 2006 - Rainbow at the Brink

Canon 20D, 24 - 70 mm f/2.8 @ 52 mm, f/18, 1/40 sec., ISO 200, Nov. 2005

This image was taken just above the brink of the Upper Falls in Letchworth State Park. On most late afternoons (especially in the fall), there will be a strong, almost vertical rainbow created by the mist from the falls. This assumes, of course, that the sun is out and there is sufficient water going over the edge. The only problem one encounters is the heavy proliferation of twigs and branches growing near the edge, all of which prohibit a clear view.

In this case, the problem was solved in Photoshop. While I normally don't like to arbitrarily remove objects that were, in fact, there when the photograph was taken, I didn't have much choice in this case. Reality, therefore, "suffers" just a bit.
