July 14, 2007 - Passing Storm, Charlotte Pier, Rochester, NY

Thursday evening, a number of thunderstorms passed just to the north of Rochester along the Lake Ontario shoreline. While I didn't catch anything really exciting (like lightning), the sun did come out long enough to illuminate the pier just as some very dark clouds and heavy rain passed to the north. The mouth of the Genesee River is to the right of this very old pier, and the lake is to the left.
As an aside, the beach to the left of the pier and a number of others in the area were closed the next day, not because of weather but because of high e-coli counts in the water. Seemed that the storms had roiled up some goop! Whatever happened to the "good old days" when you didn't have to worry about becoming deathly ill after inadvertantly swallowing a little lake water. As a species, we just don't seem to be making much progress..........
