Sept. 12, 2007 - Ascendancy
Canon 5D, 24 - 105 mm f/4L IS @ 24 mm, f/6.3, 1/5 sec., ISO 800 (handheld)
Given all of the neon and glitz of Las Vegas proper, there are infinite photographic opportunities here. Dusk is an especially good time to shoot, since crowds are minimal and the combination of ambient and artificial light is optimal. This image was taken near the top of the Rio, just outside the Voodoo Lounge. There are two outside decks, one on the 50th floor and the other on the 51st floor. This staircase connects the 2 decks.
On a technical note, I continue to be amazed by the Canon 5D and this particular lens. As you can see from above, the ISO was set to 800 and the exposure time was 1/5 second (handheld!). The image is reasonably sharp and I needed very little in the way of noise reduction in Photoshop. Just amazing.
