Oct. 17, 2007 - Fingers (Pine Creek Canyon)

Canon 5D, 24 - 105 mm f/4L IS @ 35 mm, f/8, 1/320 sec., ISO 400, polarizer

Another one of those images that would have been missed if I'd just kept walking down the trail toward the parking area. I stopped near the creek, sat down to drink some water and eat a snack bar, and was thoroughly enjoying myself. I was alone with the wind and the sound of the water. As my eyes wandered upward, I saw the high clouds and, in stark contrast, the dead pine trees. For whatever reason, the scene had a strong affect on me. I took a number of frames, but this one (from my original sitting position) seems best.

While I "processed" this one as both a color and B & W image, I personally prefer the latter. Perhaps it's because I like high contrast - I don't honestly know. For whatever reason, it's one of those "discovered" photographs that sticks in your brain, rattling around because it "means" something to you, but you find yourself unable to verbalize why.
