Cranes, cranes, and more cranes. There are so many active construction cranes in this part of the world that at least one pundit has suggested designating them the new state bird. Pictured here is the vast City Center project, said to be the "most expensive privately funded construction project in U. S. history". Last I heard, the total cost was going to be near $8 billion. As far as the cranes are concerned, some 39 will be in use during peak construction (or so I've read).

Set to open in 2009, it will have 1/4 mile frontage on the strip (between the Monte Carlo and Bellagio properties).
