Feb. 1, 2008 - Red Rock Boils Over
Canon 5D, 70 - 200 mm f/2.8L IS with 2X teleconverter @ 270 mm, f/8, 1/1000 sec., ISO 400
This was not your typical Sunday outing at Red Rock Canyon. Temperatures were in the mid 40's and winds were gusting over 40 mph at times. Not to mention an occasional dose of cold rain. But the swirling, low lying clouds were just too great a temptation. The problem photographically , of course, was the wind. Tripods are essentially useless as stabilizers (not to mention the possibility of tripod and camera getting blown over). My "solution" was to simply sit on the ground with my back to the wind, support the camera and lens with my arms and knees, and wait for the wind to die down a bit. Here, I was able to get a few seconds of relative calm while the sun broke through the clouds.
