Normally, a shot like this requires a tripod. If you want the water to take on that silky appearance (as I did here), exposure has to be around a 1/4 of a second or slower. I liked how the rock at the base of this little waterfall in Zion NP was "framed" by the water running around it, but even if I'd had a tripod there was virtually no place to put it. What to do? Well, I set the camera on the ground (actually a large rock) and took about 10 images, hoping that one or two would be sharp enough. This one was. Not perfect, but sharp enough.
One of my favorite "themes" - the neverending battle between water and rock. As usual, the water will eventually "win". It always has and always will. Like time, it is relentless.
