June 11, 2008 - That Wistful Feeling......

Tomorrow we're on the road, heading out of Las Vegas and back to upstate New York. Heading away from the desert and away from sights like this one (taken recently at Valley of Fire SP). While I won't miss the heat of summer here (it may be "dry heat", but don't let anybody kid you - when it's 105 in the shade, it's hot!), I will miss the sights that make this place unique. And I'll miss the places I never got to see. We never made it to Death Valley or Yosemite or San Diego or the Eastern Sierra. Maybe on some future trip. Who knows.

But ahead lies the state parks of NY and, most of all, the coast of New England. Las Vegas is fun, but New England seems to be in my blood. Red sandstone formations like this are wonderful to behold, but give me the smell of saltwater on the Maine coast anytime.
