This image was taken at a local park early one morning. I was really looking for a couple of blue herons that were nesting in one of the large ponds, but they were nowhere to be seen. Must have stepped out for a while, I guess. But as I was walking down one of the paths, this little guy appeared and, as young rabbits usually do, he simply froze in place. So I was able to get pretty close.

The picture is misleading, though. More correctly, it's out of context. The park sits in an eastern suburb of Rochester, with an expressway bordering the southern edge. It's usually filled with walkers and runners, many of whom are accompanied by dogs. So while it looks peaceful enough for our young friend here, I seriously doubt that he (or she) will die of old age. There just aren't that many places to hide in this park. Sooner or later, reality - in the form of a not so friendly canine - will catch up with him.
