It's really too bad that photographic images are "silent". The roar of the water here, rushing into a steep gorge and some impressive waterfalls, was deafening. What continues to impress me, though, is the relentless erosive power of this primal force. The rocks here are smooth as glass, as if a giant hand with sandpaper had been at work for centuries. In places, the stream turns at nearly perfect right angles, making one think that it is the work of human engineers. It is not. Except for the manmade gorge path, this is purely nature's handiwork. I cannot seem to get enough of these places.

For anyone interested, this gorge (called Enfield Glen) is in Robert Treman SP, near Ithaca, NY. It lies just upstream from Lucifer Falls (I love that name!).
